The Lengths We Go For Our Eyelashes

lashesI remember being a pre-teen and rummaging through my older sisters’ makeup bags for the latest mascara, dying to have long luscious eyelashes. Yes, I started young. For years, I suffered with tired hands from the intense clamping I performed on my eyelashes with eyelash curlers until one tragic night I took out half of my entire eyelash!

I was mortified! What was a girl to do? It took months for them to grow back and even then, they were not the same. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I heard of eyelash growth serums, that I knew there was hope.

Call them what you want – eyelash conditioners, serums, extensions – I heart them.

There’s been a lot of buzz around the popular brand Latisse lately, but it requires a prescription, is expensive and has some possible side-effects do to the ingredient, Prostaglandin. Side effects such as skin darkening (or hyperpigmentation) around the eyelids and the potential for increased brown iris pigmentation, which is likely to be permanent. Not for these baby blues I say!

I like some of these safer alternatives that do not include prostaglandin and get you more bang for your buck. And let me tell you, your friends and family will start to notice the difference!
