Soccer/football fans worldwide rejoice – the FIFA World Cup is underway in South Africa! Are you a USA Soccer fanatic? Do you wear red, white and blue to your local bar to watch the games? Do you want to show team pride but soccer jerseys aren’t your thing? I have a solution for you – do a smoky eye in your favorite soccer team’s colors. The typical smoky eye makeup look is created using heavy black, charcoal or gray colors, but now cosmetics companies are also creating deep hues of bright colors to play up your eye color and really make a statement. For USA fans, do the smoky eye using blues. If you’re a fan of Brazil’s team, use greens. Got the idea? Here’s how to get the look:

Start by applying an eyeshadow primer to your entire eyelid. You don’t want your eyeshadow running down your face after a couple of pints. Then sweep the lightest color in the palette all over your eye. I like to use white or a variation of a light opalescent color. Dab a light amount of sheer shimmer shadow under the brow bone.

Next, apply a medium eyeshadow shade from your lash line to the crease of your eye and blend well. Gray blends well with blue. (Team USA)

Finally, use your crease brush to gently apply the darkest color (blue) to your crease. Again, blend well. Line your lashes with eyeliner, smudge and apply heavy mascara.

Like the idea but a smoky eye intimidates you?

Use a colored eyeliner or mascara to add color to your eyes without going overboard.

Source: Flickr User Socceraholic

Remember, natural skin with a touch of bronzer and pale blush finish the smoky eye look best. Your eyes will speak volumes so be sure to downplay your lips by using a light gloss or nude lip color.

I’m a huge fan of lip gloss and Hourglass cosmetics. They have quality cosmetics that feature luxurious makeup that help the health of your skin and make it exude radiance. So when they sent over their new hydrating lip gloss collection “prodigy” I was more than happy to try it out. Prodigy is a new hydrating lip gloss collection that comes in 6 gorgeous colors that provides high shine, sheer lip gloss in an exclusive sleek and streamlined package. The only way to think of getting the best experience from this product is by trying it out in action. So, being the sports gal I am, I decided to test it out by taking it with me to a Los Angeles Angel’s game. What better way to see how great it is?

This lip gloss isn’t in just a regular tube, but it’s square and flatter for your portable needs. I for one DO NOT like taking a purse with me to sporting events. When you’re cheering and going back and forth from the stands to sitting, to wherever, the last thing I need is to carry around my 13 pound bag. Take your necessities; cash, identification, credit card, and you guessed it lip gloss. This is where the convenience of Hourglass’ prodigy comes in. It fits comfortably and conveniently in your back pocket. So going from sitting to standing to walking isn’t an issue and you don’t need to worry about where your gloss is or ask your man to hold it for you. When you’re in need of a little touch up, slide it out and viola! No-hassle gloss is there to save the day. Just some inside advice, make sure you’re careful to putting the cap back on making sure the plug is on-line with the gloss applicator, otherwise you could be in for a mess. (Follow the directions on the package) No one likes spilled lip gloss . This gloss is also amazing for your lips! Each one is enriched with with Vitamin E to hydrate and protect the lips from becoming chapped and dry and it’s paraben, sulfate, phthalate, and fragrance-free. I’m constantly looking out for functioning products that I can use when I go out, because I hate carrying my purse around when I’m having fun. Lucky for me, this is a gloss that I will continue to buy because it works with my life. Prodigy hydrating lip gloss isn’t sticky or tacky and it lasts a considerable amount of time.

Multi-functioning makeup saves so much time, they are a force to be reckoned with and these glosses definitely do the job. As an Hourglass lover anyway, (HUGE fan of their calligraphy liquid eyeliner) their lip color has never done me wrong and Prodigy was no disappointment. I’ve been taking Surreal everywhere with me and especially at game time, it’s perfect to use and gives the right amount of color and shine. Not only is it great for your pocket, but for a night out on the town, you can easily slip it into your clutch and not have it bulging out of the sides.

There’s nothing we hate more than trying to wash your sparkles off our faces. Too much makeup can make the difference between getting with that guy you’ve been eyeing all night and going home alone. You never want to be that girl who looks good from afar, and terrible up close, so please keep in mind, less is more because that foundation line under your jaw isn’t attractive.

Foundation-face is a nickname we gave this girl who single-facedly ruined half of my senior year in high school. The stage was set, my parents were going out of town, and I was going to be having one of the greatest parties ever. Everything went smoothly, the cops never showed, and the night went off without a hitch… or so I thought. My friend Matt had been talking to this girl- (we’ll call her Sarah) all night and somewhere in between 1am and 2am disappeared with her into my parents room. Usually I would have a problem with a friend doing the deed on my parents bed, but as the host of the party, I was way too preoccupied with other things. Well long story short, my friends and I cleaned everything up and my parents had NOOOO idea that anything had gone down, until they went to bed. This is why cakey makeup is bad so take note. While I happened to wash their sheets, I forgot to wash their pillowcases, and low and behold, Sarah’s foundation was smeared all over the damn things! That little piece of evidence was enough to lower my curfew to 11am, essentially destroying my social life for 5 months. On that day, the nickname, “Foundation Face” was given to Sarah and I hear that people still call her it to this day. I know, we’re terrible, but seriously, you could scrape the layers off of her cakey face with your fingernails.

Source: Flickr user dreamglow pumpkincat210

While FF is what you would think is an Extreme case of makeup abuse, sadly she’s not! When you guys have a blemish, you often try to cover it up completely. Look, we understand that you’re not always going to have perfect skin, but honestly, in our minds, it hurts you more when you pile on the coverup. PLEASE STOP the makeup abuse!

Now, from reading some of your comments and email concerns regarding my last posts, I know that you want me to offer more solutions to the problems I present. Here are a few that should help you curb your face abuse. Obviously, use less makeup, and don’t worry about the coverup or liquid foundation. While they look good upon application, they tend to clump and crack throughout the day forcing you to re-apply and inch ever closer to being a foundation face. Instead, try using light makeup products that don’t cake on like natural makeup or mineral foundation. I’m a little embarrassed to say, but I suffered from some pretty bad acne(and voice cracking) through my middle-school years (my mom’s natural solution worked wonders in as little as 15 minutes.) For those of you with dry skin, take a slice of lemon and apply it over your blemish for 15 minutes. For those of you with oily skin do the same with a slice of cucumber. Trust me, it works and will usually last all day if you resist the urge to peck at your skin.

Anywho, I guess I’m done with my rant this week. Feel free to share your makeup horrors or even your own remedies to the cakey makeup pandemic!

Big hugs America

Every year millions of people tune in to watch the celebs hit the red carpet for the very prestigious Oscar Awards. This year’s event was star packed with some of the most beautiful and talented celebrities of the industry. Not only was attention taken to their extraordinary talents and gorgeous gowns, but their celebrity beauty looks as well. Although difficult to choose only a few, here are some of my top favorite beauty eye makeup and hair looks of the 87th Annual Oscars.

Source: Flicker User >(meemoo)<

“Blindside” star Sandra Bullock and best actress winner hit the Red Carpet, unstoppable. This has certainly been her year from winning People’s Choice Awards to Oscars, its Sandra’s time to shine.
Sandra was drop dead gorgeous at this year’s Oscars Red Carpet in a gold Marchesa gown. As for her beauty look, Sandra kept her hair simple and her lips luscious red. Worn down with a slight curl accent, Sandra’s hair look was sleek and effortless. Keeping the hair simple allowed her to really intensify her makeup look. The bright red lips added extra spice to this sweet yet stunning actress. With an escalating amazing career, fabulous personality, and dazzling beauty, Sandra Bullock really is the perfect 10.

For Sandra’s bright lips try:

glow’s pick: DuWop Lipomousse – Sorbet in Baked Apple

glow’s pick for sleek shiny hair: Kronos – Krystal High Gloss Shine Spray

Although not a 2010 Oscar winner, Jennifer Lopez wins our glowing beauty award. With such an extravagant and drop dead gorgeous gown by Armani Prive, Jennifer Lopez’s makeup look was delicate and beautiful. Her cheek bones were kept looking sky high with a perfectly placed highlighter. Her glowing beauty was also reflected through her flawless skin and peachy cheeks. Jennifer’s lips were kept in the same color family as her cheeks as a slightly deeper tone. This makeup look is key to achieve radiant overall glowing beauty.

For J Lo’s peachy cheeks try glow’s: Julie Hewett’s Cheekie – Cheek & Lip Shine Pot in Peachie

glow’s pick for J Lo’s highlighted cheek bones: Lorac Oil – Free Luminizer – L1 in Pearl

Source: Temptalie

The same goes for Nicole Richie… not an “Oscar winner” but definitely a beauty winner! Her look is a mix of dramatic sexy with 60’s hipster inspired beauty. Amongst the bold midnight blue shadow, black liner was smudge in her crease. To brighten and open up her eyes, white shadow was used below her brow bone. To complete her peep show, Nicole’s eyes were winged with liquid jet black liner. A beauty look that captivates the eyes has always been one of my favorites as well. With glowing skin, nude luscious lips and a slicked back sophisticated bun, what else is to be said? Nicole Richie is and will continue to be a style beauty icon of our time.

glow’s pick: gloSmoky Eye Kit

glow’s pick: Babor Liquid Eyeliner – Black

A night of beauty went by in the blink of an eye. But these females sure left their mark on the beauty world with their stunning gowns and makeup looks. These trends will be forever remembered and appreciated not only on the Red Carpet but on the catwalks and sidewalks alike. We’ll see you next year, same time, same place at the 2011 Academy Awards!

This year’s red carpet makeup look is all about dramatic eye makeup looks, simple supple lips, and long loose curls. These Celebrity beauty looks are timeless capturing the essence of Old Hollywood glamour. A trend we are still seeing today, especially on the Red Carpet, is deep dramatic eyes. Accompanying this look is bronzed skin and supple lips to create the ultimate stunning appearance.

Actress Sandra Bullock and celebrity makeup artist Angela Levin, provide an inside look at Sandra’s beautiful Red Carpet beauty. Levin says, “When I walked into Sandra’s room, I saw that she was in an incredibly relaxed, happy and free spirited mood. I wanted her makeup to reflect her serene state of mind!” Sandra’s look is captivating, bold yet feminine, and flawless to say the least. Although her natural beauty shines through her presence, this extra added glamour makes her that much more dazzling.

Makeup application Tip:

Before applying makeup it is extremely important to prepare your skin. This is an important step when applying makeup for any occasion because your skin is the base for your entire look. Take the time to cleanse your skin and apply moisturizer.

Bold and Beautiful Lips

A girl can never go wrong with sexy, bold colored lips. Keeping the eyes simple and sheer, vamp up your lip color just like Mad Men’s, Christina Hendricks. Her eyes were swept very delicately with sheer luminous colors to add depth as well as an added touch of femininity.

Flickr User: Capital M

Beauty Inspiration:

Christina Hendricks’ makeup artist, Vanessa Scali commented, “Effortless and chic: sheer satin eyes, pink milk-maid cheeks and a siren mouth. Christina’s dress has a sexy, yet soft look. We mirrored this with her makeup. I love the contrast of the angelic, innocent face with the sexy edge of a strong mouth.”

Beauty makeup for 2010 is all about the dramatic and captivating eye and making it look effortless. Another hot trend we are seeing, especially on the Red Carpet is highlighting the inside corners as well as the brow bone for an added chic shimmer. Lips are currently kept within a natural or peach shade yet supple. However, the bold red lip never goes out of a style and is the perfect look for such a special evening of beauty.

To me, nothing says retro glamour like a perfectly red pout. And thanks to Mad Men, Alice in Wonderland and recent runway trends, it looks like the really red lip is back with a vengeance! This classic look may seem simple and easy to do, but if executed wrong red lipstick can tank an otherwise flawless face fast. The wrong shade can make you look ashy, or give your teeth a yellow tone, and if applied incorrectly you may just find yourself looking less Joan Holloway and more Bozo the Clown.

Red Lipstick Tips:

To figure out what red is right for YOU is to consider your skin tone first. If you are fair, burn easily, and find that you look best in silver jewelry like Nicole Kidman, then you have cool undertones. If you tan without burning and look great in gold jewelry like Jennifer Anniston, then you have warm undertones. When selecting your perfect shade of red you should look for one that complements the undertones in your skin.

Blue based reds look best on skin with cool undertones like mine.

The easiest way to see the base of your lipstick is to swipe a swatch on your inner arm and then smear it a bit. If the red looks more pink when smeared it has a blue base and will complement your fair skin perfectly. Blue bases also make your teeth look whiter: bonus! If you have medium skin will yellow undertones, you can rock a true fire-engine red. This red will stay true and strong (wont look pink) when you smear it. Olive complexions do best in a blood or brick red, which will appear more orange when smeared on your inner arm.

3 Extra Tips

One way to dip your toe into this trend is with a red lip gloss or sheer lipstick formula.

If you want to go all night long without worrying about your look dab on a lip stain underneath your lipstick for extra staying power.

If you’re rocking a red lip, take it easy on the rest of your makeup. A simple neutral shadow, sheer wash of blush and mascara are sufficient. The focus should be on your beautiful, sophisticated lips.

What are your favorite red lipstick tricks? Have a favorite shade? Share in the comments!

Xoxo,

I can say that i speak for everyone when I say that we’ve all been waiting for this movie to come out and March 5th can’t come soon enough. Thankfully, we’ve been lucky enough to see sneak peeks and explore the beauty looks of the characters. Not only have we seen the incredible makeup from the movie, but brands have taken the initiative to launch Alice In Wonderland inspired cosmetics. One look that stood out other than the Mad Hatter was the White Queen. Taking a snap shot from the movie, here’s some beauty tips to getting that luxurious looking grin.

This look is probably the easiest to translate into real life. Anne Hathaway’s character, the White Queen has a very pale, sweet but dark look. Her makeup was done by veteran and master makeup artist Valli O’Reily and inspired by Victorian culture and icons. The one thing that stands out the most are her blood red lips. You can translate this beauty trend into an everyday look but just complementing that one feature: your lips. The easy way to get those dark, voluptuous lips, are to use a dark red lip liner. 3 Custom Color Specialists’ Marry Me Lip liner set in Cool does the trick. It comes with a lip and cheek stain which is perfect for long lasting color, a lip liner and a lip gloss so you’re getting an added bonus by buying all three. To apply the look, you can either use just the lip liner or just the lip and cheek stain. If you’d like a glossy look, you can go with a combination of all three or just use the gloss. Using the lip liner, line the edges of your lips starting from the middle. Color in those lips! You can also use a fatter lip pencil like Fusion Beauty’s LipFusion Lip Plumping Pencil in Nude to get that perfect plum red.

Beauty Tip: If you’re worried about feathering, you can use an anti-feathering lip penc il. It also helps keep the color and you can draw outside of your lip line if you prefer.

To finish the look, you can choose to line your eyelid with a thin line using a black eyeliner. Follow up with mascara and some powder and VIOLA! you’re all set to go! You’ll definitely be turning heads with a gorgeous dark pout. Take that Red Queen, how many people will you have mimicking your blue eye shadow?

When the world economy is looking gray, bold makeup comes out to play! Thanks to fresh, vibrant colors, beauty was the star at the spring runway shows. It can be expensive to update your wardrobe, but adding a few new products to your makeup bag, well, that’s no problem! The spring runways were abundant in gorgeous color. Here are some of my favorite makeup trends paired with a beauty products so you can create the look yourself!

Source: Allure

TREND: Bright-Eyed Beauty
SEEN AT: Christian Dior, Michael Kors and Versace
Go for a flash of color with violet or turquoise eyeshadows for a super fresh look this spring. It’s a really fun and easy way to add color without looking like you are trying too hard. Get more bang for your buck with an eyeshadow palette—this way you can create lots of different looks without having to make more product purchases. Pastels were all the rage; my favorite looks were powerful in purple or playful in a shimmering turquoise shade. This makeup trend is super easy to do yourself, but if it feels too bold, play it down and just line your lower lash line. Add a little water to a brow or eyeliner brush before dipping it in your eyeshadow you and are on your way to some subtle, yet very sexy color.

Source: style.com

TREND: Powerful Pouts
SEEN AT: Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Dior and Prada
Lips received a jolt of electricity this season with the makeup trend focusing on variations of red. At Prada, models popped with a high-shine, blood-orange mouth that oozed sex and innocence while the models at Dolce & Gabbana seduced in a rich red lipstick created by makeup artist Pat McGrath using 3 of D&G’s lipsticks. Go D&G style by creating your own shade of a sexy red to seduce in or if you prefer lips with a citrus twist try 3 Custom Color Specialists Lip Gloss in Mango.

Ok ladies, we know that our men HATE Valentine’s Day, not just a little but with a passion. The animosity they have for it is naturally in their blood. We have to admit this, just like they think that father’s day is the same as mother’s day. (Because they carried them around for 9 months popped out 10 pound babies… riiiight) There are men that are in the minority that say they don’t mind, or actually like it, but it’s hardly believable. Every year, we’ve planned for our husbands, spent hours on being a seductive beauty, bought hundreds of dollars worth of lingerie just for them to come off and never be worn again, and cook scrumptious meals that they fart out later, then watch tv for the rest of the night all for chocolates and flowers that die. Oh such a sign of love is something that is cut and dies 3 days later. Receiving roses and gorgeous flowers is something that should be happening throughout the year a gesture of chivalry and appreciation. What I want this Valentine’s Day, is something that lasts and something I can use and enjoy, but still have it be a romantic gesture. So I’ve made a list that entails perfumes, luxurious bath products, a pink Clarisonic skin care brush (no time for facials), my beloved Mason Pearson hair brush, and several other beauty products that I always feel guilty for buying. I’ve already set my ultimate gift-getting Valentine’s plan into place, but lucky for you, I’ll give you my step by step guide to getting what you want.

Source: Flickr User Molly Darling

Step 1: Prepare in advance. About two weeks before V-Day, start being extremely nice to your man and surprise him with random acts of kindness. Remind him why he loves you and fell in love with you. Whisper sweet nothings into his ear, seduce, cook, clean and be that trophy wife for him that he’s proud to parade around. Of course, we all know the fact is that men have short term memories which last about 1-2 weeks. If you’re unusually nice to him two weeks before V-Day, he’ll be persuaded into believing that you’re this awesome all the time (and hopefully forget about that one night rendezvous with his brother). Therefore, you’ll get better gifts on V-Day and won’t mind spending the money on his perfect honey.

Step 2: One week before V-Day, cease this barrage of kindness and pretend to be disinterested. Let the lost puppy chase his owner. This way you can guilt him, or in the least instill fear in him and really put him on his heels. He’ll be thinking: “what happened? What did I do? Did she forget about how much she loves me?” And really, if fear has gotten us into two wars, it can at least get us a bit more than flowers and candy, am I right ladies? At this time, it’s a great time to put up your list of gifts where he can see them, as “suggestions”. You can even have the kids help out with this one and send over an email to your hubby of a “this is what mommy wants”.

** This step is tricky because you have to be careful not to let him know your game. As soon as he realizes he’s being manipulated, he’ll no longer be guilted into buying gifts; and guilt it the key to getting what you want!**

Step 3: Establish competition. Take some time to do your makeup, hair and put on that certain item of clothing that you know makes him go bananas. Men thrive off of competition. If you sneakily insert a fable (or a true story) about how some other lover gave you the best Valentine’s Day ever, he’ll be sure to try to out-do his competition. But once again, subtlety is extremely important you don’t want to over-do it.

The last step of your grand scheme is almost a repeat of step one. Start planning for next year. Guys don’t really remember details, they remember GRAND gestures. The key here is to overreact and thank him excessively for such a wonderful V-day, when you get your Jane Iredale ChocohoLICKS lip gloss set and your Vera Wang Eau De Parfum. In turn he feels gratified and accomplished as a man, and remember that specific feeling of greatness for next year.

Don’t feel bad, you’re actually doing him a favor through all of this. Men don’t realize the importance of having an effective hair dryer and other essential makeup and skin care products. If they did, they’d realize that we’d be able to get ready in half the time that we normally do and they’d have no hesitation on buying them. So don’t feel guilty about a little “influencing” to get what you want, you’re only saving him serious money spent on roses and unnecessary weight from candy.

There you have it ladies, the only surprise that my lovely husband should be getting after all is how much I’ve spent on his black American Express card. Just don’t forget that after you get your wish list, thank him and love him dearly, as he is your other half. According to Maslow, men are easy; he’ll want sex, food, and some stroking to his ego, plus, a happy wife = a happy life. Stick to those principles and you have a happy man.

Love,

With a lifestyle that demands that I keep up appearances, that means I must have makeup products that can hang. Keeping it simple with essential beauty products that provide 2-in-1 applications and/or colorful palettes has helped me earn my foursquare badges (and mayorship status) from some top spots in Los Angeles. Here are my latest adventures and my top picks for products that have won my heart:

KEEPING IT LOCAL

Where: Grunions

Who: TMZ sleuth and entertainer: Max Hodges

Product: LORAC COSMETICS, Special Effects – Conditioning, Defining & Lengthening Mascara – Black Pearl & Gray Pearl

My favorite local bar and restaurant just helped me earn my CRUNK badge while LORAC Cosmetics, Special Effects mascara kept my lashes super sleek and long when hanging with good friends and TMZ favorite, Max Hodges. With the rain coming down and a jukebox filed with classics, LORAC’s magical mascara stayed on for the long haul of the night and didn’t smudge during our Lady Gaga electric slide-athon.

flickr user: Sagittarian Images

International Wine Festival

Where: Hollywood Renaissance Hotel

Who: Drink Eat Play event

Product: LORAC’s Croc Eye/Cheek Palette

International wine festival just means one thing…I’m there with bells on. A devoted fan of all DRINK EAT PLAY events, I joined my friends for a night in Hollywood trying different Malbecs, Merlots and Pinots (and somehow sake made its way to this event). In order to take my look from day to night, I used LORAC’s palette of neutral colors. The packaging is super chic and the color palette was perfect with its amazing pigments and endless combinations.

And on a final note…

Special thanks to fellow glow blogger, J. Michelle, for introducing me to the iphone app, foursquare that has been documenting my stops through LA!
