This look is probably the easiest to translate into real life.  Anne Hathaway’s character, the White Queen has a very pale, sweet but dark look.  Her makeup was done by veteran and master makeup artist Valli O’Reily and inspired by Victorian culture and icons. The one thing that stands out the most are her blood red lips. You can translate this beauty trend into an everyday look but just complementing that one feature: your lips. The easy way to get those dark, voluptuous lips, are to use a dark red lip liner. 3 Custom Color Specialists’ Marry Me Lip liner set in Cool does the trick. To finish the look, you can choose to line your eyelid with a thin line using a black eyeliner. Follow up with mascara and some powder and VIOLA! you’re all set to go! TREND: Bright-Eyed Beauty

Go for a flash of color with violet or turquoise eyeshadows for a super fresh look this spring. It’s a really fun and easy way to add color without looking like you are trying too hard.  Get more bang for your buck with an eyeshadow palette—this way you can create lots of different looks without having to make more product purchases. Pastels were all the rage; my favorite looks were powerful in purple or playful in a shimmering turquoise shade. This makeup trend is super easy to do yourself, but if it feels too bold, play it down and just line your lower lash line. Add a little water to a brow or eyeliner brush before dipping it in your eyeshadow you and are on your way to some subtle, yet very sexy color.

Lips received a jolt of electricity this season with the makeup trend focusing on variations of red. You still have time to ring in the New Year in style with a little bit of fashion advice and beauty tips from yours truly. I’m all about sparkle, especially diamonds and sequins, but there is an appropriate time and place to sparkle and New Year’s Eve is definitely one of those times! In addition to timing and place, there is an appropriate way to wear sequins. Don’t wear head-to-toe sequins—break it up with a solid color.

A loose, white blouse is perfection with sequined pants! The entire look costs under $100! Just throw on a pair of black pumps (open-toe or closed, that’s your decision) and I officially give you permission to leave the house!

An outfit like this doesn’t need much makeup. I’m all about the cat eye right now—it’s one of my favorite makeup trends because it’s edgy, but pretty and oh so sexy! I just bought this eyeliner  from Hourglass; I’ve only used it once, but I really liked it! It was easy to use, even with my shaky hands, and helped create a fluid line. However, if you like color you could totally rock this ensemble with some bright eyeliner or create smoky eyes with plum eyeshadows (something a little different). Just make sure you apply LOTS of mascara to complete the look!

Not just for Actors: Foundation and Cover-up

I learned this one first hand while I was carpooling with my best guy friend in high school. On the way to class he pulled out a bottle of Cover Girl I couldn’t’ believe it! I asked him flat out. What are you doing? His reply, I don’t want people to see my breakouts! Seriously, it was a relief to learn that some men cared just as much as the rest of us about these things.

Later, when I moved to LA, it was only re-confirmed when I started working as a makeup artist that my BF wasn’t the only one. There are more than a few men out there that truly care deeply about presenting a flawless face via cover-up and foundation. Cheers to them to taking on a task we women know all about!

True Trendsetters: Artistic

While working as a makeup artist, I got to see those rarest of the rare that went beyond just the basics. Some wanted a perfect pout with clear gloss while others wanted to enhance their close-set eyes. Well, it seems that the trend is on the move again. LOUD MOUTH: Bold lips will continue to rule through spring. At Jason Wu, models walked the runway wearing a range of dark lips: some girls strutted in a shade of wine and dazzled in blood red while others pouted in a dark plum shade.

BOW DOWN: I’m partial to this trend because I wore bows all throughout high school and college (trust me, I looked good, think Blair Waldorf). I didn’t wear my bows like this (trust me, I looked good), but I’m still giving myself props after seeing the models at Marc by Marc Jacobs and Luella sashay down the catwalk with big bows in their hair!

TREND: DARK LIPS – This trend intimidated me at first, but once I found a shade that worked for me (I went with a dark berry lip gloss) I didn’t like leaving the house without my mouth on. My boyfriend isn’t a huge fan of the look, but all my gal pals love the look! Boys, what do they know about makeup trends anyways…

ADVICE: Go with a lip gloss or lipstick shade that looks good on you (not on the models) and what you feel comfortable wearing. Starting with a lip gloss helped me ease into my new, provocative pout, but my eyes have been wandering towards the lipstick section when I’m at the beauty counter. Don’t put on any blush when you wear dark lips.

TREND: FLUSHED PINK—Yes! Anyone who knows me knows I’m all about blush…bright pink blush! So I want word to get around that bright cheeks are in style! We saw this on the runways at Anna Sui, DKNY, Stella McCartney and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
ADVICE: The look on the catwalk was pink blush high on the cheekbones instead of on the apples for a more chic flush.  Make sure you blend the blush!

TREND: WAVES –Since the makeup on the runways made such a bold statement on its own, tousled hair kept the whole look from becoming overdone. I’m partial to this trend because I have naturally messy/wavy hair, but I love it because it keeps me looking casual, never like I’m trying to look good even though  I am!
ADVICE: Whether you want to give your natural waves a boost or you want to go from straight to sassy just wrap sections of your hair (about an inch) around a large-barrel curling iron and hold for about 30 seconds then release. Repeat all over, then once curls have cooled lightly brush through them.
