When the world economy is looking gray, bold makeup comes out to play! Thanks to fresh, vibrant colors, beauty was the star at the spring runway shows. It can be expensive to update your wardrobe, but adding a few new products to your makeup bag, well, that’s no problem! The spring runways were abundant in gorgeous color. Here are some of my favorite makeup trends paired with a beauty products so you can create the look yourself!

Source: Allure

TREND: Bright-Eyed Beauty
SEEN AT: Christian Dior, Michael Kors and Versace
Go for a flash of color with violet or turquoise eyeshadows for a super fresh look this spring. It’s a really fun and easy way to add color without looking like you are trying too hard. Get more bang for your buck with an eyeshadow palette—this way you can create lots of different looks without having to make more product purchases. Pastels were all the rage; my favorite looks were powerful in purple or playful in a shimmering turquoise shade. This makeup trend is super easy to do yourself, but if it feels too bold, play it down and just line your lower lash line. Add a little water to a brow or eyeliner brush before dipping it in your eyeshadow you and are on your way to some subtle, yet very sexy color.

Source: style.com

TREND: Powerful Pouts
SEEN AT: Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Dior and Prada
Lips received a jolt of electricity this season with the makeup trend focusing on variations of red. At Prada, models popped with a high-shine, blood-orange mouth that oozed sex and innocence while the models at Dolce & Gabbana seduced in a rich red lipstick created by makeup artist Pat McGrath using 3 of D&G’s lipsticks. Go D&G style by creating your own shade of a sexy red to seduce in or if you prefer lips with a citrus twist try 3 Custom Color Specialists Lip Gloss in Mango.

You still have time to ring in the New Year in style with a little bit of fashion advice and beauty tips from yours truly. I’m all about sparkle, especially diamonds and sequins, but there is an appropriate time and place to sparkle and New Year’s Eve is definitely one of those times! In addition to timing and place, there is an appropriate way to wear sequins. Don’t wear head-to-toe sequins—break it up with a solid color.

A loose, white blouse is perfection with sequined pants! The entire look costs under $100! Just throw on a pair of black pumps (open-toe or closed, that’s your decision) and I officially give you permission to leave the house!

An outfit like this doesn’t need much makeup. I’m all about the cat eye right now—it’s one of my favorite makeup trends because it’s edgy, but pretty and oh so sexy! I just bought this eyeliner from Hourglass; I’ve only used it once, but I really liked it! It was easy to use, even with my shaky hands, and helped create a fluid line. However, if you like color you could totally rock this ensemble with some bright eyeliner or create smoky eyes with plum eyeshadows (something a little different). Just make sure you apply LOTS of mascara to complete the look!

OK, maybe these are not the most unique Halloween costumes, but if you’re in a pinch and need a last minute costume, here are a few easy ideas to execute. All you need is a little makeup and about 15 minutes.

Vampires: If you haven’t already jumped on the Twilight band wagon, now is a good time to go as your favorite Twilight character this Halloween. To get the look, start by applying a foundation or powder that is lighter than your natural complexion – the cakier, the better! Next, play up those eyes with black eyeshadow and eyeliner. Finish the look with DuWop’s – Twilight Lip Venom. Fangs will earn you extra credit!

A Baby: Put your hair in pigtails and draw on freckles using a brown eyeliner pencil. Throw on footed pajamas or a long nightgown and you’re good to go. Don’t forget to carry a baby doll, baby bottle or pacifier.

Housewife: Put your hair up in curlers, slather an inexpensive mask all over your face and wear your most comfy robe and slippers. Super cute and super comfortable!

A Cat: Draw a black nose and whiskers on your face using black eyeliner. Wear a tight black long-sleeve shirt and black leggings or jeans. Most Halloween stores have inexpensive ears you can purchase. Or, you can always make some using a black head band and construction paper. Grrrr..baby!

OK, it’s time for another confession from a beauty junkie. I don’t have one makeup bag, I have 3! I swear it has to do more with convenience rather than gluttony. One makeup bag holds my travel necessities and is packed at all times for any last minute trips that may pop up. I recently had stay overnight in the hospital and it was a life saver. I call my second makeup bag my road warrior kit. It has makeup that I apply usually while driving: lip glosses, mascara, etc. (sorry officer!) My 3rd and final makeup bag has basic day to day products that I use to put my face on in the morning. Here are some of the beauty products I can’t live without.

Makeup:

I have tried several moisturizing tints but LOVE Dermalogica’s Sheer Tint with SPF. It provides the perfect amount of coverage and is not at all greasy. Plus, since it has SPF, I am always sun safe.

I love the versatile colors in Too Faced Cosmetic’s EyeShadow Quad . I can use this one quad to do both day and nighttime looks. It also goes great with Raw Natural Beauty’s – Tuscany Mineral Eyeshadow. I love the result I get when I layer a few different colors together.

Hardware:

Good brushes are worth every penny and the Flatbuki Brush by Too Faced Cosmetics barely makes a dent in your wallet. The bristles are so soft and it distributes powder and bronzer flawlessly.

I always carry dental floss in my road warrior kit. Like my ID and credit card, I never leave home without it.

What’s in your makeup bag? Please share.

From Wall Street to the runway, gold is in high demand right now! And if you’re like me, you’ll agree these gold makeup products are worth the investment. Gold makeup is great since it works on every skin tone. Fair, medium and olive complexions can shine with warmth and brilliance all year long with gold – especially with eyeshadows and bronzers. Here are my favorite golden treasures available at glow.com. However, be careful not to go overboard. You don’t want to look like “Gold Member” from Austin Powers so choose just one area to focus on at a time.

EYES - Gold eyeshadow helps your eyes pop and brings out that special sparkle.

My favs are:

Amazing Cosmetics – Sun Shine Bronze Squad

Paula Dorf – Eye Color Glimmer in Stardust

DuWop – Crush Heavy Metal Eyeshadow Trio

CHEEKS - Bronzers work well for achieving a sun-kissed glow as well as gold highlighters.

My favs are:

Too Faced – Pure Bronze

Becca Cosmetics – Mineral Bronzing Powder

RAW Natural Beauty – Mineral Glow

SKIN - Fake that summer tan year round with these golden skin enhancers. Hot tip – Spice up your LBD (Little Black Dress) by dusting gold powder on your décolleté and cleavage.

My favs are:

Tarte – Glam Gams Bronzing Leg Stick

gloMinerals – Gradual Glo Self Tanner

Sue Devitt – Glow Kit (tinted moisturizer – plus lip gloss, eye pencil and eyeshadow)

What are your favorite golden nuggets? Please share!

Strength was the common makeup trend strutting down the fall 2009 runways. Versace, Prada, and Michael Kors all previewed strong bold eyes with natural lips; while YSL and Lanvin showed off fresh faces with strong red lips. Follow these easy how-to apply fall makeup tips and show off your own beauty strength.

How-To Apply Makeup Tip #1– Bold Eyes

I think it’s best to start with an eyeshadow primer when doing a strong or smoky eye. It not only helps eyeshadow go on smoothly, but it helps your eyeshadow stay on longer. Next, use a highlighter on your brow bone- a little shimmer really makes your eyes pop. The key to a smoky eye is to layer, layer and then layer more. Layer blue, plum, green, or gold eye shadow into a darker gray or black shadow to really make your eyes pop. A great makeup trick is to first apply pencil eyeliner along your lash line, smudge and then apply liquid liner on top. If liquid liner isn’t your thing just wet an angled brush with water and dip it into one of the accent colors instead- the wetness intensifies the eyeshadow color and helps keep it on your eyelid.

How-To Apply Makeup Tip #2– Bold Lips

Any woman can wear red lipstick; it just needs to have the right undertones. Fair skin and light hair = yellow or orange undertones. Olive skin and dark hair = blue undertones.

Start by applying foundation over bare lips, line lips, apply color, set with powder and finally apply another coat of lip color. This will give you the nice matte finish seen on the fall runway. Need a little shine? Add a coat of clear or shimmer gloss. It’s my belief that confidence is all it really takes to pull off a bold red lip. I suggest taking baby steps if you’ve never worn red lipstick before but want to start. Wear red lipstick around the house for a week before you make your public debut. Still not comfortable wearing red? Adopt an alter ego when you put on red lipstick. Pretend your January Jones’ character in AMC’s Mad Men. She’s GORGEOUS!

Who are your other favorite red lipped celebrities? Let me know.
