30. I can’t believe I’m almost 30! I remember when I was younger and thinking 30 was the ultimate end of my youth. Honestly, nothing has changed. I’m still frightened. What happens at 30? Should I buy a house? Do I need to start buying anti-aging products? Should I start thinking about kid names? Is he (GULP) the one?
This monumental age got me so worked up that I decided I must leave the country for my birthday before my time clock explodes. That’s when I thought what a better place to go than Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! Hey, celebrities like Jennifer Anniston and Britney Spears seem to like it, so it must be a great place. Margaritas, tacos, sunshine – I’m in!
I started planning immediately. I stocked up on all the essentials. You have to look your best on your birthday, right? I got two new bathing suits, self tanner (you have to start this at least a week in advance for the perfect tan), SPF and my “summer makeup” as I like to call it. This includes tinted moisturizer, bronzer, waterproof mascara and LOTS of lip gloss, of course. I was all set!
The countdown had finally got down to only 30 days when out of nowhere – bam – the World Health Organization claims we are in a “pandemic” called the Swine Flu with Mexico being the number one culprit. Just my luck, I thought. What to do now?
Research!
Here is what I found out:
1) What is it? - Swine flu is a term for a strain adapted to pigs. Swine flu can infect humans, but mostly from a pig to someone handling pigs. It can pass from human to human via coughing, sneezing or touching infected people or surfaces. You cannot get it from eating pork – Hallelujah!
2) How Do I prevent it? – Wash your hands with soap and water. Use alcohol- based hand sanitizers. Avoid sick people. If you are sick, stay home.
3) Where is the danger at?
Lucky for me, I found a Swine Flu map so I can keep up to date on where it’s spread to.
