How to: From Office Chic to Game Time Beauty In Minutes

Attending an event of pure excitement, glitz, glamour, beauty, and celebrities is not easy to come by, unless you’re at a Laker game. Usually when going to an event like this, you’d like to get all gussied up, take the time to put on great makeup, and look like you’re ready for your close up. Unfortunately, I didn’t have that chance. I got the news of getting amazing Laker tickets for Tuesday night’s game around 3pm (game was at 730pm) and there’s no chance in going home to change from work or time to actually get ready.  Being extremely unprepared for the night (makeup and hair wise) some tinkering was needed. So for all of you that haven’t been in this scenario, here’s a little natural makeup tutorial to get you ready and set to go.

Starting situation: That morning I had put on the usual makeup. Some neutral eyeshadow, eyeliner, powder and mascara. Pretty basic but easy to work with and translate into a night look.  My hair was simple thrown into an up do for the office, and luckily I had also worn flats. If you’re stuck in heels for the night, it’s not going to deter anything, but you’ll fit right in with the LA crowd. Another unfortunate thing was I was wearing the colors of the opposing team, the New Orleans Hornets (if you’re a Laker fan this is a big no no).

Let’s start with the makeup. Since I had the basics on already, the best thing to do was to darken and freshen up the eyes. Oh the trusty makeup bag in the purse. Ladies, it’s always a good idea to carry around or at least have a few makeup items at your disposal, if not you’re leaving yourself open to a lose-lose situation. Re-apply your eyeliner (if necessary) or use it to create a smokier look with your eyes. I chose to use it to create a darker line on the lids and at the end of my eye to create a simple but non-blatant cat-eye.  If you have an eyeshadow for use, freshen that up as well and make it look like you just applied it. You can also use a darker shadow as a liner so you have a multi-functioning product.

Makeup LookSo your eyes are done. Next, if you don’t have any blush handy, pinch those cheeks to get a rosey natural color. It’s easy and you can always re-do it on bathroom breaks if you have to. Last, apply your lip color. I like to use a more natural lip color since my eyes were a little darker so I used Jane Iredale’s Puregloss in soft peach. My hair was loosely thrown into an up do so I just let it fall and used my hands to set it straight. Most people use hair ties, but personally hair ties aren’t right for me because of indents in your hair if you decide to take it down and it compromises the thickness of your hair. Because I used a clip, there were no indents and it looked fabulous.  Now about the outfit, this can be optional, but as a fan it’s unacceptable to be at the game in the other team’s colors. Since I was also second row, I wouldn’t be caught dead doing it and disrespecting my favorite team. Arriving about a half hour early, the second I walked into staples center I made a B-line to the team store and purchased a brand spanking new gold Kobe Bryant jersey and changed. Outfit – check, makeup-check, hair-check. Easy to do and now you’re ready to sit back and enjoy the game.

Lakers vs. HornetsAbout the game: It was a complete blowout. Lakers won 110-99 over the Hornets and had almost a 20 point lead the entirety of the game. Kobe Bryant had 18 points, Ron Artest with 16, Pau Gasol with 14, Bynum with 21 and Shannon Brown also had an impressive game It was a great game and for those that haven’t had the privilege of going to a Laker game, it’s definitely something to see in your lifetime. Case and point NBA Champion, Kobe Bryant – do you need any more reason than that? Celebrity sightings were Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, Jack Black and Khloe Kardashian (who was yawning almost every time I looked over at her hmm). Bynum may have had 21 points this game, but surely I think I was the one who lucked out.Yuckie

Tip: In the winter and holiday time of year, go upstairs in Staples Center to the outside patio and you’ll get an amazing view of LA Live across the street.
